Do you want to understand the Bible? Would you like to read it for yourself? Have you started to read the Bible, but soon get bogged down? Do you think the Bible is too big? Or the Bible is only for the experts? If you are interested in the big picture and want to investigate the claims of the Bible, then this seminar is for you.

Here is how it works.

Session 1 - How We Got the Bible (13 minutes)

We begin with a brief historical background by looking at writing through history, when the Bible was written, and in what languages. We will talk about how God communicates with mankind and the process of determining what books should be in the Bible.

Session 2 - The Old Testament Story (15 minutes)

This session traces the Old Testament story on a map. You will learn which books contain the story and the main events. We end the session with the key ideas of the Old Testament bookshelf.

Session 3 - The New Testament Story (14 minutes)

We begin with an overview of what happened between the Testaments. Then we trace the life of Jesus through the Gospels and the rest of the story through the book of Acts.

Session 4 - God's Purpose Through the Bible (11 minutes)

Now that you have an overview of the story, we can think about the big picture and reflect on what the Bible has to say about what God is accomplishing through history. What is his purpose and what kind of agreements does God make with mankind?

Session 5 - Crisis Pattern of the Bible (18 minutes)

Now that you have an idea of God's purpose, we take some time to look at the crisis events and reflect on what the Bible has to say about where history is going.

Session 6 - How the Bible is Christ Centered (15minutes)

Jesus is obviously the focus of the New Testament, but how does he relate to the Old Testament? We will illustrate how the Bible is Christ centered through three examples and a model.

Session 7 - Bible Themes and a Plan (8 minutes)

We reflect on four major themes woven through the message of the Bible and end by presenting a plan for reading the story yourself. Enjoy the journey.
